From Patricia and Gary in Calgary we want to send our condolences to Kathy and Rachel. Doug and I were roommates our first year away from home at the U of Sask and we continued a lifelong friendship (although Doug’s bagpipe practicing in our shared dorm room nearly caused an early rupture). I spoke with Doug 3 days before he passed, the last of our conversations over our fifty plus years of friendship. It was no easy conversation but he had lived a very impactful and good life as many of the comments here attest. We are very sorry for your loss Kathy and Rachel. Our prayers and best wishes to you both.

Dear Kathy and Rachel,
Our hearts are deeply saddened to know of Doug's passing. We are sending our sincere and our full heart
condolences to you both during this very difficult time. Doug's sphere of influence and involvement was absolutely far reaching. Doug's impact on family, friends, community along with his profession as the best lawyer has had a positive affect on more lives than we will ever know. His overwhelming willingness to volunteer his time and experienced abilities declared what is fair and right in this world where there are so many injustices. We all have very large shoes to fill and each one of us in our own unique way uphold the legacy that Doug has left for us. It has always been our pleasure and blessing to share times in the Lutz/Manko home. Whether professionally or as friends the hospitality that we received from Doug, Kathie and Rachel is second to none and will always be held dear in our hearts. Our lives are richer because Doug shared parts of his life with us. Continuing to keep you both in our thoughts and prayers.
With Love: Peter and Nancy Levy

Doug was a pillar of strength for me during a big part of my adult life, and it makes me smile to think he probably never even knew. He was powerful with his carefully chosen words but even more so with his silence. Kathie, you and Doug have a marriage that I was in awe of, full of true love and debate. And Rachel, you are your dad’s female equivalent….so full of compassion and deep thoughts. And lastly, he had the best taste in music ever…..xxxx

I hope warm memories will give you both some comfort, Kathie & Rachel. I didn't know Doug well, but I'll miss seeing him walking "the hill," as he did so often, and he will be missed for his many and varied contributions to the Wolfville/Valley community.

I just recently heard this news and wish to send my condolences to you, Kathy and Rachel. Doug offered his services, time and kindness to my newcomer clients in the Valley, through my work with the Y, and his advice and time were invaluable and generous.

Sending condolences to Kathy and Rachel. Thinking of you both during this time.
Doug was always so friendly when we ran into each other and he was a great support for so many newcomers, families, the arts and more. I have fond memories of sharing the stage with Doug in my first show ever... something I continued and he didn't but, it began a nice connection and led to more projects with Rachel. Take care, your both in my thoughts!

Much love to you both, Kathie and Rachel.
I’m so so sorry. I adored Doug. I always knew he would have an adult conversation with me, challenge me, and teach me.
Thank you, Doug, for everything you have done for me and all.

Safa Hatip,
I met Doug and Kathie through their daughter Rachel, my English teacher in Acadia. It was a beautiful coincidence that I met this nice family. They are a very helpful family. They are simple people. I loved them very much and I tell them everything about my life because I trust them. I heard from my friends that Doug was a wonderful lawyer. I am sorry that we lost him. My sincere condolences to Kathie and my teacher Rachel.

Whether it was participating in church affairs, on the soccer field, or helping a friend with free legal advice, Doug gave of himself to the community time and time again. Gone way too soon. Sending much love to Kathie and Rachel. Thea Burton

Dear family,
I am a cousin of Doug’s from Saskatoon. Aunt Myrtle and my grandma (Hildred) were sisters. We attended many, many ‘dos’ with Aunt Myrtle & her clan! I was at Chris’s Sintaluta reunion & had such a wonderful chat with Doug. Also connected again at his dad, Willard’s, funeral. And I believe he was also with Carol & I when we visited Willard & Betty in their home. I didn’t really get to know him until we were older as I hung out with Sheila & Carol! What a lovely fellow he was—wonderful to talk to. And as my brother & sister-in-law are lawyers in Calgary we had lots in common! Cousin Maureen and I discovered the news as we were chatting one day, and both felt so very sad. My family & I send sincere condolences to you both, along with lots of love & hugs.
