Obituary of Marie Eldora Borden

Age 80, of Halifax, was surrounded by family when she peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, VG Site, Halifax. Born in Liverpool on March 15, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Bertha Marie Freeman.

When Marie wasn’t travelling the roads in her truck, she spent her time with friends going to thrift stores on senior discount days, playing cards on Wednesday afternoons, reading or doing crafts. Marie had many accomplishments in her life, a particular one she was very proud of was completing her GED while in her sixties. Prior to her retirement, she worked in housekeeping at the Victoria General Hospital and she volunteered at the Spencer House.

Marie is survived by her children, daughter, Dorothy Paris (Laurie Barss); son, Roy Tommy Small (Anne Jeffery) and daughter, Glendora Small; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her eldest son, George Burton Cornelius and sister, Effy Young-Freeman.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at the VG Palliative Care Unit 7A.

Marie was a friend to many and will be missed by her loved ones.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per Marie’s wishes there will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marie may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St, Halifax, NS B3H 1S6.
