Obituary of Ervin McClair Cochrane
Age 96, of Bedford, formerly of Hants Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 5, 2025 in QEII Health Sciences Centre-VG Site, Halifax. Born in Hants Co., he was a son of the late Carl and Charlotte “Lottie” (McClair) Cochrane.
Ervin went to school in Sweets Corner and worked for the Fundy Gypsum Company for 40 years. He enjoyed gardening and bowling and was an avid sports fan, particularly for the Montreal Canadians. He enjoyed travelling around Canada and the United States and as far as the British Isles. Throughout his life, he was a Cub leader, a Sunday School teacher and a dedicated supporter of the Windsor United Church for over 50 years. Ervin was a great advocate for the Food Bank and took on that responsibility on behalf of the Church, with food collection and many trips to the Food Bank. He lived his life in accordance with his values of family, community and service. He was quiet and humble about his many contributions and acts of kindness.
Ervin's greatest pleasure in life was to watch his family grow, starting with Daniel and Darrell and then expanding to eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Ervin is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Ruth (McClare); sister, Ella; daughter-in-law, Daniel's wife, Fabienne; grandchildren, Courtney, Jonathan, Ashleigh (Alexander), Daniel (Jillian); great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Tucker, Magnus and Seneca; son, Darrell (Tina) and grandchildren, Craig (Kristen), Geoff (Mandy), Sarah and Taylor (Noah); great-grandchildren, Cameron and Claire; as well as many extended family members.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the community of the Windsor United Church and the Palliative Care Unit at the Victoria General Hospital.
