Obituary of Annette Mary Foley

Please share a memory of Annette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It comes with great sadness the family of Annette Mary Foley would like to announce the passing of their beloved mother and wife on Friday, March 14, 2025 in the QEII Health Sciences Center – Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born on July 24, 1970, she was the daughter of the late Raymond “Ben” Swinamer and Dorothy Tucker of Three Mile Plains.

Annette was born and raised in Windsor with her mother, Dorothy and her grandmother, Minnie until she was 15, when Dorothy met Ben and Annette then lived with them in Three Mile Plains. In 1998 she met Hank and they spent a beautiful 27 years together and raised four beautiful children. Annette loved to do many things in her lifetime. She was a great gardener, her favourite being a yellow peony and dahlias. She loved her flowers. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, going to bingo and going to the exhibition and playing bingo with her grandkids there. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She worked many places in her short time here on earth. Annette was always the first to offer you something to eat or drink and a warm place to stay. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her beloved cat, Mittz. She had a name for all her strays and she knew who to call when she needed a nurse, Rianna. Her children will surely miss the special little things that Annette did for them such as war cakes on birthdays, how it took hours to decorate the Christmas tree and how she knew exactly who was peeking at what presents were under the tree. The holidays just won’t be the same without “Martha” in the kitchen. Her famous, most-loved dishes were war cakes, date squares, sloppy joes, homemade dressing and of course the coleslaw. Ashlynn and Lyda will always remember the faces you made while playing games. You know it.

Annette is survived by her husband, Hank Hengeveld, Windermere; children, Christopher Foley (Rianna), Wolfville; Tiffany Vander Heide (Philip), Coldbrook; Melissa Hengeveld, Halifax and Jerry Hengeveld, Cambridge; grandchildren, Ashlynn, Lyda and Lanie.

Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Valley Regional Hospital and QEII Health Sciences Centre.
