Obituary of Stephen Lewis Hope

Please share a memory of Stephen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Thursday, March 13, 2025, Stephen Lewis Hope, known as Steve, aged 70, peacefully passed away at his home on Dawson Road, Newport Corner, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 4, 1955, in Windsor, as the first baby in his family to be born in a hospital.

Steve dedicated his life to being an exceptional husband, father, grandfather and friend. He cherished the time spent with his three sons and their families, creating enduring memories together. His passions included the outdoors, logging, operating his sawmill and driving his tractor, which his wife called “his other woman.” He also enjoyed taking long walks, searching for the perfect fishing spot, and establishing creative hunting locations with his sons.

In his extensive career as an electrician, Steve earned a reputation for his skill and meticulous attention to detail. Though he was a man of few words, he was highly respected for his wisdom. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife on their property, embarking on many adventures together. Steve was always fixing something and willing to help his family and friends. He was often heard saying as Red Green once said, “If the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.”

Throughout his illness, Steve maintained his wonderful sense of humor, always ready to bring laughter when it was least expected. He continued to teach, love and cherish his family, offering unconditional love to everyone. He will always hold a special place in our hearts as an extraordinarily kind man. Steve will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. The family finds solace in the knowledge that he is at peace, enjoying the woods with us in spirit.

Steve was predeceased by his wonderful father, Aurther Lewis Hope; his sister, Ellen Jean (Hope) Banfield and his beloved mother, Joyce Augusta Hope.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan Elizabeth Hope; his three sons, Nicholas (Amy Lake), Daniel (Michelle) and Aaron (Jocelyne) Hope. His grandchildren, Cameron and Catherine Hope, shared a unique bond with their Grampy. He took Cameron to get his first truck at sixteen and loved watching Catherine dance for him at home and in videos. He also leaves behind his siblings, Heather (Steve) Flynn, Bill, John (Cathy), Anna (Vernon) Sanford, David (Lori) and Peter (Deborah); sister-in-law, Judy; nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren, Gabe and Jack. Special mention to Kaitlin, Jordan, Mandy, Sylvia, Darren, Chantal and their families.

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, March 21 in the funeral home chapel Reverend Linda DeMone officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Burial will take place afterward in Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Appendix Cancer/Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation, 751 Sproul Road #1057, Springfield, PA 19064 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6.
