Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Joan?
A: Family get togethers are a big part of the Carey’s. I’ve been friends with Joan’s daughter Paula since High School and no matter the occasion I always remember how put together Joan always looked. She was always dressed beautifully and always had a smile on her face. She never missed an opportunity to be around family and friends and share in the fun and festivities.

Merle, Randy, Paula and families:
We are sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. We have many fond memories of times spent with the Carey’s. Our sincere condolences to you all.
Years ago, we affectionately called Joan our “cruise director” — a title that was passed on to Renda.
I will miss visiting you at Dykeland.
Marg & Laurie
May you rest in peace.

It is with sadness that we heard today of Joan's passing. As part of Casey's original retired teachers golf group at KenWo we got to know Joan and Merle quite well over the past 20 years. Joan was a wonderful caring person who loved a good laugh and she and Merle could sure wear out a dance floor. We thoroughly enjoyed our times talking to her and her positive spin on life. It is unfortunate that she this dreaded disease took away the last few years of her life. Merle and family please accept our sincerest condolences on her passing.

My delightful memories of Joan begin as a babysitter for Renda, and Randy. Joan and Merle loved to dance so kept me busy on Saturday nights! In later years it was a fun golf round when I got to play with Joan on Thursday Womens’ Day. Joan had an affectionate laugh which warmed the hearts of all who knew her. She was a wonderful mother to her children and soulmate to Merle.

We send heartfelt condolences from Ocean Keyes, NMB; a place well known to Joan, Merle, Casey and Rena.
Joan was a superb role model for her children - living an active, involved life, gathering many friends and good memories along the way. What could be better?
May she rest peacefully now.

Dear Merle, Randy, Paula and families ... Fran and I were saddened to learn this evening of Joan's passing ... we were expecting it but it is still so sad to hear this news. We send our sincere condolences to you all and we hope all the happy memories you have made over the years with Joan will help heal your grieving hearts. I know I will remember her as the Joan I knew back when we would gather with all the ladies when we joined the Red Hatters (The Hantsport Happy Hatters - later known as the Crown Jewels of Canada.) She always enjoyed all the fun times we had as we travelled the Valley attending events with other Red Hatters. She was fun to be around as she was always happy - laughing and smiling ... 'and' she was never without her tin of Pepsi ... it had to be Pepsi!! She wore her Red hat in style just like the lady she was. She was loved and she will be missed. RIP ... Lady Hole in One!!! I am so sorry to hear of Joan's passing. Merle, Randy, Paula and families, my heart goes out to you all. As you know, I've known your Mom and the family since I was a child. I always looked up to Joan and Merle. She was a wonderful person. I babysat when younger, played ball with your Mom and we always had a good laugh. She had compassion for others and raised her children very well. She always had time to stop and have a chat whenever I saw her. You will have so many wonderful memories to cherish. Love to your Dad and all of you. Sylvia, Beverly, Liza and Steven Best

I'm so sorry to hear of Joan's passing. I have known the family for over 60 years. I used to babysit the children and loved to get a chance to play the piano when they lived in the old R. A. Jodrey apartment. Joan was a wonderful person, as are all the other family members. I'm sorry I don't have any old pictures of Paula as a child. My condolences to all the family.

Wolfville School was an important part of Joan's life as well as my life. She was our girls' hockey coach. Now in those days, we didn't have all that gear like today to protect us. In fact, our gear was a hockey stick and a puck. Imagine!!!! Can you imagine the authorities allowing us to play that way. But we had fun. Joan has always been so positive and had that beautiful smile. Used to connect with her at the Acadia hockey games. It was so great to see her. Condolences to Merle, Randy and Paula and all the family. Now she can go join Renda. Love to all.
