Dear Donnalee, Jason, Jared and Spencer: This message is from your uncle Rex in Halifax. I write to say that I am devastated at the loss of your father, my brother Larry, and now the loss of Lyda, your mom. I got to know her and her family [parents Fred and Mae, and sister Shirley] about the same time Larry did, in Mississauga. I recall with fond memories their wedding and the good times with all the friends and our families gathered together at the ceremony, and later the reception at the Constellation Hotel. Since then, over the years, your mom Lyda became a good friend to me. During my many visits with them at home in Hantsport, the three of us sat and talked for hours which led to supper and me not getting away 'til after dark. Upon leaving to drive back to Halifax, she always gave me a warm hug. She was well-informed and keenly observant and expressed herself forthrightly, no matter the subject. There is oh so much good to be said about Larry and Lyda. I can hardly handle the loss of them, but time is a healer for all of us. In that regard, your uncle Rex understands your need for contemplation and privacy at this time of added pain and grief in your lives, at the loss of your dear mom.
