Compared to many who are writing in this book, we barely knew Rick personally. Yet through knowing his incredible daughter Rebecca, my closest friend Amin, and their wonderful children—Emerson, Juniper, and Alistair—we came to understand the legacy Rick leaves behind.
That legacy is one of true leadership, kindness, and quiet care for others.
I’m reminded of a trip to Europe in 2017 with a group of nearly 20 of us. Rick often walked at the back—not because he was slow, but because he was always looking around, doing a quiet headcount, making sure no one was left behind. Though I had only met him a few times before, he treated me and my family as his own on that trip. He made sure everyone was feeling good, was always ready with a joke, a beer, or a story, and had a way of instantly lightening the room.
His generosity was constant and never made into a spectacle. He opened his home to us whenever we visited from the West Coast and always made time to connect. We were truly fortunate to know him.
While we are deeply saddened that Rick has left us in body, we are grateful that he will always remain with us in spirit. Rest in peace, Mr. Rick Dunham. Your legacy is firmly intact, and it is now your time to rest.
With gratitude and remembrance,
