LEIGHTON, Suzanne Florence (Blanchard)

Age 59, of Ellershouse. It is with broken hearts that we announce Suzanne’s quiet passing in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, on November 27, 2017, with her husband and parents at her bedside. Born in Ellershouse on May 7, 1958, she was the much-cherished daughter of David & Gloria (Haley) Blanchard.

Suzanne got her early education in a one room school in Ellershouse and then went on to graduate from Hants West Rural High in 1976.  She was a member of the Reserve Army, West Nova Scotia Regiment from 1975 to 1984, where she met the love of her life. She served with the Regimental Band as a trumpet player as well as the administration and Pay Clerk, Music Librarian, Instruments Storeman and driver.  She attained the rank of Sgt. and was the Band Sgt.-Major on many parades.  Suzanne was interested in Genealogy and did extensive research of the many branches of her family.  She was blessed with creative hands and was self-taught in knitting, crocheting and cross-stitch whereby she crafted many heirloom pieces which adorn her family’s homes.

Besides her husband of 38 years, Darrell Cameron Leighton, she leaves to grieve her brother, Peter Blanchard and his wife, Terri Lynn (Pemberton); sisters-in-law, Charmaine (Stephen) Lyttle; Annette (Darrell) Tingley; as well as her special niece and nephews, Melissa Blanchard (Shiach); David Blanchard; Devon and Sheldon Tingley and their families; Brandon Lyttle; special friends, Kim and Wendy Cochrane.

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A funeral service celebrating Suzanne's life will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 1, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Krista Anderson officiating.
