Obituary of Laurie E. Newcomb

NEWCOMB, Laurie Edward - 81, Hantsport, Hants Co., passed away June 5, 2012 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born May 23, 1931, he was a son of the late Frank and Estella (Greene) Newcomb.Laurie was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 34 years, an IOOF lodge member, a former Scout Master, and a member of the Hantsport School Board. He worked at Minas Basin Pulp and Power Co. for 41 years, and was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter in his spare time.Laurie is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Stephen (Pam); Frank (Gail); Douglas; Robert; Charles (Joan); brothers, Robert (Bernice); Roland (Valerie); sister, Barbara Ratteau;  nine granddaughters; six grandsons; five great-grandchildren and three pending great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Laurie was predeceased by a brother, George and a sister, Rowena MacQuarrie.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Laurie may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
