Obituary of Mary Evelyn Stewart

STEWART, Mary Evelyn Mary Evelyn (Stewart) Stewart, age 99, a resident of Windsor Elms Village, was born in McDougal Settlement (outside Moncton, NB) on September 1, 1916 and passed away peacefully on July 4, 2016. After finishing school she attended Oulton's Business College in Moncton and Mount Allison University. Upon completion she went to work for Marven's Biscuits. In 1939 she married Ward Stewart, who at the time was a school teacher. Ward joined the army, very shortly thereafter, serving in England, Italy and finally Holland as a Captain. He returned home in 1945 and went to work for the Canadian Manufacturer's Association. Evelyn "Ev" had two children, James in 1946 and Mary in 1949. She was very active in Central United Church and also in the Canadian Girl Guides where she served as District Commissioner for many years. She was an avid bridge player all her life. After the death of her husband in April 1994 she moved to Windsor, NS to be close to her son and joined the Windsor United Church. She has two children, son, Jim (Simone) of Windsor, NS and daughter, Mary (Doug) of Vancouver, BC, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a funeral service celebrating Evelyn's life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 31. A reception will follow in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre. Interment will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to a charity of one's choice.
