GREENOUGH, Alton Gilbert "Jack" It is with heavy hearts, that we the family of Jack Greenough announce his peaceful passing on Thursday, February 4, 2016 in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, with his family by his side. Born April 25, 1921 in Mount Denson, he was a son of the late Gilbert Edmond and Mary Jane (Guptell) Greenough. In the early years, Jack worked at the Davis Farm in Mount Denson, where he had many happy years and later met his wife Evelyn in 1942. In 1930, Jack went to work at Minas Basin Pulp & Power, retiring after 35 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing on the Avon River, as well as gardening, with his specialties being tomatoes, summer savoury and many other varieties of vegetables. During harvest time at Jack's house you never left without a full bag of vegetables. Jack is survived by sons, Harry (Donna), Arthur, Ont.; Douglas (Sandra), Roberta, Cape Breton and Stephen (Darlene), Mount Denson; daughters, Brenda (Ervin) Mosher, Hantsport; and Shelley (Jeffrey) Tracey, LaHave; sister, Glenda Fielding, Newport Station and brother, Gordon, Coldbrook; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his wife the former Mary "Evelyn" Whalen (September 13, 2005); sisters, Irma, Jean, Stella and Greta; brothers, Kenneth, Lloyd and Cyril. Special thank you to all the staff at Dykeland Lodge for the care and compassion given to Jack and his family. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, February 6. A funeral service celebrating Jack's life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 7 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Heather Card officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre. Interment will be held in Mount Denson Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack may be made to Mount Denson Baptist Church, c/o PO Box 280, Hantsport, NS B0P 1P0.
