STURK, Edmund Belford - 86, Morristown, Kings Co., passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by family. Born on July 25, 1925, in Morristown, he was the elder son of the late Alton R. and Charlotte E. (Saunders) Sturk.Edmund was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the RCAF as a flight engineer. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick. Edmund had worked several years at Formex in Kentville, where he became a member of the Turtle Club after a hard hat saved his life. Edmund owned and operated Mapleglade Farm in Morristown, a fourth generation mixed family farm. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Fruit Growers Association and the Apple Hall of Fame. Edmund took pleasure in tapping trees to make maple syrup and he worked in the woods into his early 80s. He loved Sunday drives, looking at machinery and farm equipment, reading, and meeting people. The family hosted hundreds of guests through the Nova Scotia Farm & Country Vacations program and their B&B. Edmund enjoyed introducing city kids and their parents to milking cows and tractor rides.Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Shirley E. (Tupper) Sturk, Morristown; children, Stephen (Andrea), Oakville, Ont.; Ronald (Susan), Brampton, Ont.; Eric (Claudette), Berwick; Janet (Stephen) Saunders, Weston; Lorraine (Greg) Keith, Dartmouth; Cynthia (Paul) Joudrey, Quispamsis, N.B.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, J. Oliver (Rosamond), Ottawa, Ont.; many nieces and nephews.Cremation has taken place with arrangements entrusted to Bryce Johnstone and DeMont Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service (902-538-8317). Visitation will take place from 7 - 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 3 in the Morristown Community Centre, Prospect Rd., Morristown. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, in Morristown Baptist Church, 6557 Aylesford Rd., Morristown. Pastor Chad Clements officiating, with burial in the Morristown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edmund’s memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, the Morristown Baptist Church, or to a charity of choice.
